MEC Desbo Mohono appeals to locals to take short left

North West MEC for Tourism Desbo Mohono is calling on holiday makers to consider local tourism destinations, in a bit to promote the short left campaign which is also aimed at contributing to the local economy in Villages, Townships, and Small Dorpies. MEC Mohono says this festive has to be more special as local tourism should take centre stage as she says “Local is lekker”.

According MEC the local guest houses and other local attractions have proved to be more affordable and offer quality in hospitality.

“I am calling on locals to explore tourism in their own back yard and enjoy. Local social clubs and companies could use this opportunity for their closing parties or their last meetings before they close for the festive season. Even families can still have their family gatherings in our resorts which are also in the periphery,” said Mohono.

She called on officials from her department to create ambassadorship out of locals and further encourage them to visit local attractions. “By so doing locals will assist in marketing and promoting the local attractions and refer other. In that way we are sure that our beds will be full, and the hospitality industry will greatly benefit from the venture. Ultimately the A Re yeng Bokone Bophirima Brand will grow from strength to   strength,” said Mohono.

Meanwhile as part of its events strategy, Tourism Department has also encouraged  people from all walks of life to support the annual provincial events. The province will soon host the Mahika Mahikeng Cultural Festival on Friday until Sunday and later in December Thousands of fun lovers will be descending to Taung for the annual DJ Nation music festival. MEC Mohono also encouraged locals to support such events. She said that such events are a draw-card into the province, which will in the final analysis make the province to be a preferred tourism destination and further boost the local economy.

Mohono could not conclude, without appealing to tourist not to drink and drive, and adhere to road rules. She also warned that those who cannot swim, to stay away from swimming pools and for parents to keep an eye on their children when enjoying the swimming pools. “We have heard about incidents where tourists lost their lives mainly because they had too much alcohol and drowned. Let us party responsibly and have fun during this festive season,” she said.
