MEC Albert Fritz attends Braai Polar World Record

Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Adv. Albert Fritz, officially congratulated Mr Richard Knoetze of Braai Polar for breaking Guinness World Record for the longest BBQ (braai), at the V&A Waterfront.

Richard was the holder of the old world record, which stood at 96 hours, and today shattered it with a time of 112 hours, 27 minutes and 59 seconds of non-stop braaing.

A second world record of 91 hours, 46 minutes and 9 seconds for the longest Team BBQ (braai) was also set, as Richard was joined by Member of Parliament, Pieter van Dalen, and renowned specialist braai-master, “Braaiboy’.

The Braai Polar initiative has truly become a global brand, and is driven by the Face Bipolar organization, founded by Richard, who is himself bipolar. Face Bipolar is a digital platform that provides nutritional and exercise advice, as well as support for people living with bipolar disorder and their families.

In support of Braai Polar and many other initiatives and organizations, the Department of Social Development (DSD) remains committed to playing a leading role in the provision of services to people living with disabilities.

In the last five years, DSD has almost tripled the budget for services to persons with disabilities, from R47.6-million to R130-million this financial year. DSD is proud to support initiatives aimed at raising awareness for mental illnesses and disabilities.

Congratulations to Richard and his team for putting South Africa, and the Western Cape, on the global map for bipolar awareness, and for breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest BBQ.
