Limpopo Government embarks on Mapungubwe build-up activities, 15 Sept to 8 Nov

The Limpopo Provincial Government embarks on a District based build up activities from 15 September – 8 November 2016 as part of annual Mapungubwe Arts, Culture and Heritage Festival festivities.  

These activities coincide with Heritage month which is celebrated annually from 1-30 September and Tourism month respectively. The Mapungubwe festival contributes positively in the improvement of the economic growth of the province through tourism and it afford people the opportunity to deliberate on their culture and heritage.

District build-up gives Limpopo citizens an opportunity to get a feel of what the festival is about and promote the festival. District build-up activities will commerce with Mopani from 15 to 17 September 2016 at Nkowankowa Stadium, proceed to Vhembe District on the 22 - 24 September 2016 at Thohoyandou Sports Arts and Culture Precinct Indoor Centre. It will then be followed by Sekhukhune District, 29 September – 1 October 2016 and Waterberg District from 30 September – 2 October 2016 at Peter Nchabeleng Hall and Modimolle Hall respectively.

Activities includes cultural competition, choral competition, fashion show, arts and Craft exhibition competition, I can sing competition, poetry and storytelling amongst others. Finalist of the “I can Sing” competition will be awarded an opportunity to record an album, and showcase during the main Mapungubwe Arts, Culture & Heritage Festival. Flim and Video Workshops are also done as a way of skills development and transfer for aspiring producers, writers and directors in the film and video industry.

These build-up events will also be used to ensure that artists register on the Central Database. Registration will centralize supplier's data to simplify Government's procurement processes. It also aims to reduce costs to both government as well as suppliers to government.

We call on all people to participate in these activities throughout various districts in an effort to revive our culture and heritage in our communities. Interested people must register their names at local municipal offices to participate in the activities. See below programme of events per district:
