Deputy Minister Pamela Tshwete hands over tanks in North West

Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality received trucks and jojo tanks from Water and Sanitation

The Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation Mrs Pamela Tshwete officially handed over fifty (50) jojo tanks with the capacity of 10 000 litres each to be placed in eighteen (18) clinics, twenty-four (24) crèches and eight (8) schools, as well as ten (10) additional water tankers to Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality yesterday.

The department intervened through these short term interventions due to the drought that has hit the country, and the fact that the local municipality is in dire straits. The Deputy Minister was accompanied by the Executive Mayor of Maluti a Phofung Local Municipality Cllr Vusimuzi Tshabalala and his council, Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality councilors as well as other government officials and private companies who also contributed towards the relief of drought in the area.

The Deputy Minister and her entourage visited Bolata area where they were shown some of the boreholes that were drilled and used for water supply in the area, then proceeded to Naledi crèche where one of the fifty jojo tanks is installed. They then visited Fika Patso Dam to see the level of the dam, Makwane water treatment plant that is currently being upgraded from 5ML to 10ML to increase capacity.

The last stop was the Bluegum Bosch abstraction point where the trucks get water for delivery to the community. This is where the trucks were officially handed over to the municipality. The department continues to strive for improved service delivery and the Deputy Minister urged the community to continue to use water sparingly as we are not sure how long the drought will last.
