Labour’s Grayston Drive Pedestrian structural bridge Inquiry continues, 2 to 5 Aug

Representative from Form-Scaff, the supplier of material testifies in Department of Labour-appointed M1/Grayston Inquiry

The Department of Labour-appointed M1/Grayston Drive Pedestrian and cyclist structural bridge Inquiry will continue tomorrow (2 August 2016) after a week’s recess with testimony from Form-Scaff, the company that provides an array of products and services to a range of construction and civil engineering industries.

A witness expert from Form-Scaff, will tomorrow take the stand. The Commission rounded its previous work a week ago with a site visit to the scene of the fatal accident on the M1/Grayston bridge. Murray & Roberts had made a presentation to the Commission in which it presented a number of models it had designed, in a bid to convince the Commission to provide it with the permission to start the reconstruction of the bridge.

The latest session will start tomorrow (02 August). The Commission then takes a break on election day and resumes on Thursday until Friday (05 August 2016).

The Department of Labour set-up the Section 32 Inquiry to uncover the causes of the collapse of scaffolding works into the Grayston Drive Pedestrian and cyclist structural bridge. The collapse of the temporary bridge structure on the M1/Grayston Drive led to the death of two people and injury to 19 others. The Section 32 investigation, presided by Lennie Samuel, and assisted by Lesibe Raphela is being held in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.

The Inquiry is held as follows:
