The Limpopo Provincial Government, led by Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha cordially invites members of the media to the Provincial commemoration of Human Rights Day. This year's Human Rights Day will be commemorated under theme “The year of indigenous languages: Promoting and deepening a human rights culture”. The day is planned as follows:

Date: 21 March 2019

This year marks the 59th anniversary since the Sharpeville massacre whereby 69 people died while 180 were wounded when apartheid police opened fire on peaceful crowd that had gathered against the pass law. The day became an iconic date in our country’s history that on the 21 March yearly is commemorated as Human Rights Day as a reminder of our rights and the cost paid for our treasured human rights.
