Limpopo launches 16 Days of Activism, 25 Nov

Limpopo hosts National Dialogues and launches 16 Days of Activism

Limpopo Provincial Government led by Premier Chupu Mathabatha will host national dialogues and launch the 16 days of no violence against women and children on the 25th November 2016. The national dialogues will provide a platform to the nation from all walks of life and all sectors to tell their stories regarding violence against women and children. The dialogues aim to promote social cohesion amongst communities. President Jacob Zuma is expected to deliver a keynote address.

The launch of 16 days of activism on no violence against women and children is a united nations undertaking that is recognised worldwide from the 25th November to 10th December, to generate awareness about the scourge of violence against women and children.

This year’s 16 Days of Activism will be held under the theme “Count me in: Together Moving a Non-Violent South Africa Forward.”

The objectives of this programme are:

  • Government should strengthen partnership with NGOs and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) –including those that target and involve men and boys for prevention and rehabilitation, faith-based organisations, traditional leadership and healers as well as the business sector;
  • To strengthen the pillars for more effective and rigorous implementation of the 365 Days National Action Plan –especially the prevention pillar in as far as root causes are concerned;
  • To encourage community involvement in initiatives to combat crimes against women and children; and to communicate government’s substantive programmes and priority actions to deal with the challenges of women and child abuse.
  • To create awareness about gender based violence and child directed abuse at grass roots level and bring the 16 days of activism campaign closer to people;
  • To involve men and boys child as partners in the campaign for no violence against women and children. And persuade the perpetrators of these crimes to change their behaviour and to educate men on violence and abuse.
