Premier Stanley Mathabatha meets stakeholders during Provincial Aids Council, 16 Mar

Limpopo Government to meet Aids Council stakeholders

Limpopo Premier, Chupu Stanley Mathabatha together with Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba will meet and deliberate with stakeholders during the Provincial Aids Council to be held on the 16 March 2016 at Lephalale.

The Limpopo Provincial Aids Council (LPAC) comprises of not more than fifty members and it’s chaired by the Premier of the Province, Mr Chupu Stanley Mathabatha, while it’s Deputy Chairperson is appointed from the civil society representative.

Limpopo Government will host the LPAC to reflect on a number of matters pertaining to HIV & Aids and TB. The event comes at a time Limpopo is preparing to host World TB Day in Lephalale this month.

The Country is affected by HIV & Aids and TB pandemic and Limpopo is no exception.  Government has rolled out the world's largest treatment programme and Limpopo has a total of 248 578 people on ARV programme.

Government is committed in fight against mother to child transmission, STDI, HIV & Aids and other deceases. Government visit various communities to provide health services and encourage people to know their status so they can live healthy and protect those they love.  

The establishment of state-owned pharmaceutical company called Ketlaphela by National Department of Health will go a long way in ensuring smooth supply of antri-retroviral drug in the coming financial year.

The objectives of the council are:

  • Play a leadership and coordinating role, on issues of policy and strategy development and implementation;
  • Build commitment and foster partnership that help improve health outcomes for all South Africans;
  • Monitor and evaluate the multi-sectorial interventions for HIV & TB strategies in the Province; and
  • Mobilise human and financial resources for the implementation of multi-sectoral Provincial Strategic Plan.

NB: Members of the media will be briefed on the discussions of the LPAC by Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha. MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba and Deputy Chairperson of LPAC will join the Premier. Details of the briefing are as follows:
