Limpopo conducts MECs and HODs induction workshop, 15 to 16 Aug

The Limpopo Provincial Government will host a two day interactive induction workshop on the 15 – 16 August 2017 targeting Members of Executive Council (MECs) and Head of Departments (HODs) in Bela-Bela, Waterberg District. The duties of HODs and MECs are core function of public financial management and service delivery.

They are guided by the provisions of the Constitution and subsequent enabling legislation, regulations, policy frameworks, guidelines, practices and principles of co-operative governance and intergovernmental relations.

The overall objective of the induction workshop is geared towards promoting and improving Public Finance Management (PFM) and African aspirations for creating the leadership much needed to improve service delivery and running of a clean administration, free of corruption. Some of the issues that will be covered at the workshop includes:

  • Constitutional and legislative basis for public sector financial management and budget process in South Africa;
  • Paradigm shifts in managing public sector: Managing fiscal puzzles for effective and efficient service delivery; and
  • African thought leadership perspectives and pondering the pursuit of African Aspirations for 2063. Including best practices and case studies.

This programme supports MECs and HODs with a comprehensive compendium of education, training and development (ETD) solutions. ETD’s main objective in this case is to improve the ability of a candidate to implement service delivery of their respective departments with greater consistency, efficiency and effectiveness taking into consideration available resources verses the people’s needs.  

It also equips them with the requisite PFM fundamentals and Afrocentric approach that is required to deliver strategic objectives of government in pursuit of NDP 2030 and 2063 African aspirations within the context of South African public sector.
