The Legislature lauded the exemplary Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury for retaining a positive audit outcome for the year ended 31 March 2016.
The Provincial Treasury is one of the five public institutions that obtained unqualified audit opinion without matters of emphasis in the latest regulatory and performance auditing of the public institutions in the Province.
The chairperson of the portfolio committee on finance, Hon Fidel Mlombo said the Provincial Treasury must be complimented for being a leading institution in the ongoing campaign for clean governance in Mpumalanga.
It is the tenth years in succession, since 2006/07 fiscal year, that the Provincial Treasury recorded the revered audit outcome which is commonly referred to as Clean Audit from the Auditor General of South Africa.
MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Sikhumbuzo Kholwane is directly responsible for two (2) departments and four (4) public entities.
Both the institutions under his stewardship that is Provincial Treasury and Department of Economic Development and Tourism as well as Mpumalanga Gambling Board (one of the four entities) attained clean audit in 2015/16 financial year.
MEC Kholwane said more still needs to be done to ensure universal improvement in the audit outcomes of the province.
“We will continue to exercise oversight and result-oriented support to other departments to move to unqualified audit status. We will not be satisfied until all our institutions in the Province improve their audit outcomes,” said MEC Kholwane.
The Provincial Treasury has already started to analyse the audit improvement plans to address key issues that AG has raised in the management letters and the audit reports of the provincial departments and public entities.
These action plans are analysed to ensure that all matters are included and Accounting Officers are provided with an analysis report with recommendations for improvement.
