Latest state of water report looks at the effectiveness of legislation in attaining Department of Water and Sanitation objectives

The latest 2014/15 State of Water Report by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) indicates whether implementation of the legislation is effective in changing or improving the current state of water.

The report aims to present the status and trends of water in the country including assets and water financing. It focuses on the following themes: climatic conditions, water availability, water quality, water use, water protection, service delivery (including sanitation), water planning and water finances (Hydrological Year 2014/15).

DWS is the custodian of the South Africa’s water and it is therefore imperative that it reports on the situation of water in the country as per the White Paper on National Water Policy of 1997. The objectives of reporting are to regularly provide knowledge to empower water managers and policy makers to make informed management decisions and to provide accurate, timely and accessible information regarding the state of water to the South African public.
