The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms Nomvula Mokonyane and the Premier of the Northern Cape, Ms Sylvia Lucas, will together officiate over the launch of the refurbished and upgraded Vaal Gamagara (VGG) Water Scheme as well as handover the spanking new and first SANS accredited laboratory in the Northern Cape.
The R18 billion water project is anticipated to actively supply water demands up to 2030. The upgrade was necessitated by the need to address the ageing infrastructure, and secure supply for the mining boom especially in the John Taolo Gaetsewe locality. Growing agricultural water demands will also be addressed by this project now and in the future.
During the launch, the Minister and the Premier are also expected to officially open the Vaal Gamagara quality control laboratory which will be the first South African National Standards accredited laboratory in the Northern Cape. The laboratory will extend its services to hospitals, mines and municipalities in the Northern Cape.
