MEC Reginah Mhaule launches Mpumalanga Data Driven Districts project, 17 May

Launch of Mpumalanga Department of Education Data Driven Districts System

The Honourable MEC for the Department of Education in the Mpumalanga, Mrs. Reginah Mhaule, will on 17 May 2016 launch the Data Driven Districts project in the province at Kragveld Primary School, Pullenshope in the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.

The Data Driven Districts (DDD) project is aimed at improving learner outcomes through the educated use of data to inform decision-making and intervention planning. This project emerged through a unique collaboration between the Department of Basic Education and the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, harnessing individual learner data collected through the SA-SAMS systems at the school level and translating this into clear, actionable insights for schools, districts, provincial and national officials with the aim of improving learner outcomes.

Since the pilot was launched in 2013 information for more than 3 million learners across five provinces – Gauteng, Limpopo, Free State, North West and now Mpumalanga – has been collected.

The Department of Education in the Mpumalanga, through the work of the Education Management Information Systems (EMIS) is committed to the use of data as a critical tool for decision-making and operational engagements. EMIS is using the DDD Dashboard to provide meaningful information and empower stakeholders at all levels of the department to make informed decisions that drive efficiency.

By making data available to all stakeholders in a simple, visual format using the DDD Dashboard, the Mpumalanga Department of Education aims to drive effective interventions to improve learner outcomes.
