Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries launches National Arbor Month, 7 Sept

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in partnership with the Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs, the eHlanzeni District Municipality and Total South Africa, will launch the National Arbor Month campaign on 7 September at Mbombela Local Municipality in Mpumalanga.

This will be the official launch of the extension of the National Arbor Week to a month campaign. The theme for the Arbor Month is: “Forests and Sustainable Cities”.

Activities of the launch day will include project visits and greening initiatives in and around the local municipality, including Barberton and Thekwane communities. The day will also include the Arbor City Awards, a competition sponsored by Total SA and was introduced to promote the greening of cities and towns in South Africa. These awards are given to cities/towns that go an extra mile to green their areas of jurisdiction.
