Deputy Minister Phathekile Holomisa attends ARLAC symposium, 16 Feb

Labour Deputy Minister, iNkosi Phathekile Holomisa will tomorrow (on Tuesday, 16 Feb 2016) leave for Livingstone in Zambia,  to attend the 42nd Ordinary Session of the African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC).

This Session will be held back-to-back with a High Level Symposium on “Decent Work in the Global Supply Chains”.  The Governing  Council (GC) meeting ends on February 19.

The GC: is made up of Ministers responsible for Labour/Employment/Manpower matters in the various member States.

  • Is the supreme authority of ARLAC
  • Has full powers to pursue ARLAC objectives/resolutions
  • Establishes procedures and regulations for ARLAC Staff/Employees; other engagements
  • Approves budget, accountable for governance in ARLAC
  • International Labour Organisation (ILO) and United National Development Programme (UNDP) are represented on the Council.

ARLAC is an organisation with its own Governing Council, comprising of Ministers of Labour from 19 English speaking countries in Africa. The organisation was founded in 1974 and is supported by the International Labour Organisation and the United Nations Development Programme.
