Department of Labour OHS inspectors to undergo training on MHI Regulations

The Department of Labour’s Construction, Explosives and Major Hazard and Installation (MHI) Directorate within the Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) will be conducting a series of national training workshops on the administration of MHI Regulations.

The training seeks to provide a framework on the use of exercises and case studies to develop procedure for dealing with invasions around MHI pipelines.

Departmental Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) inspectors will be trained over two days per session on the requirements for MHI Regulations. The training content will cover: Sasol Satellite Operations; challenges; local authority approvals; provision of safe and healthy operations; and dealing with unauthorised works around pipelines.

The first training starts from 19-20 March 2019 at Umhlanga Garden Court in KwaZulu-Natal. The training will start from 08:30am – 15:00. It will be conducted by Sasol and Departmental officials.

Some of the departmental stakeholders in the pipeline sector includes: Sasol Satellite Operations, Approved Inspection Authority (AIA), relevant local authority, Transnet and Rand Water.

The rest of the training programme will be held as follows:

  • Mpumalanga (Emalahleni) – 03-04 April 2019
  • Mpumalanga (Nelspruit) – 09-10 April 2019
  • Gauteng (Germiston) and Free State (Sasolburg) – 14-15 May 2019
