Police arrests KwaMashu robbery suspect

King Cetshwayo Cluster Crime Intelligence assisted by National Intervention Unit conducted an intelligence driven operation in Gauteng area after receiving information that the suspect wanted by KwaMashu police is in Hillbrow area. The members proceeded to Hillbrow where they traced and arrested the suspect.

A warrant of arrest was issued against him.  The arrested suspect might be linked to other cases that were reported at KwaMashu area. He will face charges of armed robbery and appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court soon.

It is alleged that on 30 November 2013, at about 14:30, the victim (38) was walking at Jabula road near KwaMashu hostel when he was approached by two suspects. He was allegedly threatened with a firearm and the suspects took his cash before they fled the scene. A case of armed robbery was opened at KwaMashu police station for further investigation.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised the team for arrest of the wanted suspect“This shows that the SAPS members are dedicated to their work and are working proactively. Continuous operations, roadblocks and other visible policing initiatives contributed to the arrest of suspects and the recovery of illegal firearms, stolen vehicles and illicit drugs in the province,” he said.
