Police arrest two suspects for stock theft in Swartberg

Kokstad Stock Theft unit struck again on stock thieves 

Last night, Kokstad Stock Theft unit struck again when they arrested two suspects for possession of eleven suspected stolen goats at Swartberg area near Matatiele. The arrested suspects age 22 and 30 years will appear in the Kokstad Magistrate’s Court today, 12 May 2016 facing possession of stolen property.

The members were conducting their patrol duties in the area last night to curb theft of livestock in the area when they received information about the suspects who were transporting stolen goats from Eastern Cape on their way to Umzimkhulu area. The members intensify their patrols and they spotted two suspects at Swartberg area with eleven goats. The suspects were apprehended and they could not give satisfactory explanation about these goats. They were both arrested and charged with possession of stolen property.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for curbing down stock theft cases in the province. Stock Theft members will intensify their strategies in making sure that those who are involved in stealing livestock are brought to book. I also thank the community members who alerted the members about these suspects who were allegedly stealing goats. Their information was valuable to us. Community members must continue supporting us in the fight against stock theft crimes,’ she said.
