Premier Supra Mahumapelo leads social mobilisation campaign, 28 Oct

A province-wide Kgetsi-Ya-Tsie fund raising campaign – all urged to support

Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo will on Friday, 28 October 2016, lead Members of Executive Council, Mayors, Churches and Community leaders, Senior Managers in Provincial Departments and Municipalities in a social mobilisation campaign to raise funds and donations for the Provincial Kgetsi-Ya-Tsie Bursary and Skills Development Fund.

Established last year in July, Kgetsi-Ya-Tsie Bursary and Skills Development Fund is a strategic initiative by the Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government to supplement existing funding streams supported by Government to assist needy and deserving young people in Bokone-Bophirima further their studies. The fund includes bursaries for tertiary education, learnerships, internships, artisans and technician development.

The current challenges facing higher education, in particular the question of alternative funding model/s requires of government and society in general to find creative ways to find the right balance in the resourcing of all competing social needs without compromising any. Important in this equation is the need to build collaboration between government, civil society, academia, students and parents in the search for a lasting solution to the current challenge.

“We all need stability, growth, development and prosperity in our province. These can only be achieved if there is a collective effort”, said Premier Mahumapelo, saying a successful fund raising campaign will mean more bursaries for our students.

As part of this effort, Premier Supra Mahumapelo, Members of Executive Council, Mayors and senior public servants will be deployed to all local municipalities, in a bid to collect donations from caring citizens. The donations collection areas will be identified shopping malls and taxi ranks.

Premier Mahumapelo calls on all, private businesses, public servants and the broader society, to come in numbers and join the campaign, to make a difference in someone’s future.

Members of the media are invited to cover the Kgetsi-Ya-Tsie fundraising activities to be held at various local municipalities, which will start at 9h00.
