Basic Education hosts media launch for 2016 edition of Kay Motsepe Schools Netball and Football Cup, 27 Sept

2016 Kay Motsepe Schools Cup ready to kick off as official draw sets ball in motion

The Department of Basic Education in partnership with the Motsepe Foundation will on Tuesday 27 September 2016, host the Media Launch and Public Draw for the 2016 edition of the Kay Motsepe Schools Netball and Football Cup.

Having been in operation for 10 years, the schools football challenge is regarded as having the largest prize money in the world for any school football tournament; with the winning school receiving R1 million from a total annual prize money of R3,4 million.

The event is expected to be attended by the Motsepe Foundation Founder and Chairman, Patrice Motsepe, Founder and CEO Dr Precious Moloi, Netball SA President Di Wooley, and SAFA President Danny Jordaan, SAFA CEO Dennis Mumble and SAF Technical Director Neil Tovey.

The 12th Edition of the Football tournament will take place in Johannesburg from 3 - 8 October 2016 and will see teams challenging to dethrone current champions, Pretoria’s Clapham High School, while the netball ladies will compete from 6 - 8 October 2016.

Details of the launch:

Members of the media are invited to the Media Launch and public draw of the 2016 Edition which will see Eighteen (18) school football teams compete for the National Title with Fifty two (52) netball teams battling it out for top national honours.

The media launch and public draw will take place as follows:

Venue: Tshedimosetso House, Cnr Francis Baard & Festival streets, Hatfield, Pretoria.
