Gauteng Legislature donates furniture to Kaalfontein Primary School, 21 Oct

Gauteng Provincial Legislature-Chinese Consulate partnership combat shortage of furniture at Kaalfontein Primary School

In partnership with the Chinese Consulate, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) will donate 550 chairs and 75 desks to Kaalfontein Primary School in Midrand on Friday, 21 October 2016. Chairperson of Committees Hon. Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko and Consul General of China in Johannesburg, His Excellency Mr Ruan Ping will lead this initiative that aims to aid the provision of quality education at the school.

Kaalfontein Primary School caters for 2027 learners in classrooms made out of metal containers. With the school being situated on privately-owned land government efforts to intervene and build a brick and mortar structure for the school haven’t succeeded. The school has also experienced a shortage of chairs and desks for learners; and the partnership between GPL and the Chinese Consulate aims to address this challenge.

From Friday, 21 October 2016, learners from the school will now have an opportunity to be taught while sitting on good quality chairs and desks. This improvement in their classroom conditions is also envisaged to provide a conducive environment for learning and development.

The ongoing partnership between GPL and the Chinese Consulate is directed towards a common goal of achieving good educational outcomes that are responsive to community needs and economic development as envisaged in the National Development Plan.
