North West Tourism on service delivery

It’s all systems go for the North West Department of Tourism

The Department of Tourism will focus much if its work in the new 2017/18 financial year in delivering services in the 767 Villages, 72 townships and 23 small dorpies across the North West.

The undertaking was made an effort to ensure that the department is in line with the five concretes of the province which seeks to bring developments and address challenges facing locals in those areas as mandated by the fifth administration.

The Commitment was adopted during the departmental preparation for the new financial year held recently in conjunction with its agency the North West Tourism Board in Mafikeng.

Giving the baseline and also providing strategic political direction, North West MEC for Tourism Desbo Mohono urged the departmental management and its agency to both to think out of the box and come up with even more creative ways to deliver the department’s mandate with diligence.

She said that the department carries a significant mandate which seeks to stimulate the economy and subsequently influence change in ordinary people’s lives.

“As much as we are gathered here to put a finger on the pulse of our performance for the current financial year we need to bear in mind that we are also here to plan for the future. Improved staff morale is pivotal in ensuring that we further revolutionaries the tourism industry in the province.

Our performance has improved significantly but we however still need a room for growth and perform even better”, said Mohono.

Mohono added that there is also a dire need for her department to continuously coordinate its services with other provincial departments in order to realize its mandate. She said that it is up to the department to ensure that the ACT (Agriculture, Culture and Tourism) economic pillar is functional and delivers as mandated.

“We need to fasten our relations with our sister departments and ensure that the Act economic pillar is functional and delivers on its mandate. If other departments do not come to the party, we need to pull them closer and ensure that they follow the band wagon, because our unity will ultimately spell success.

We need to take the lead on this and ensure that this economic pillar is functional in order for us to reach our targets and meet our performance expectation”, added Mohono

Head of Department, Adv. Neo Sephoti said that although there are challenges within the Tourism Sector itself, the department is doing well in terms of its performance outcome.

“In the mist of the challenges we are facing as the industry and also as a department we have managed to meet all expected outcomes and we are also looking forward to doing even better in the next financial year. We will put systems in place in order to perform even better”, she said.
