Communications responds to curtailing of international trips

Ministry of Communications response to curtailing of international trips

The Ministry of Communications has written to all entities that fall within the communications portfolio requesting them to adhere to the cost containment measures adopted by government relating to overseas trips. The letter was addressed to: Brand SA, ICASA, MDDA, Film and Publications Board as well as the SABC.

It is mischievous to insinuate that the Ministry of Communications is usurping the powers and responsibilities of these entities, or that this letter was only directed at the SABC. The letter states clearly that the entities should be mindful of cost implications and the size of delegations when considering international trips. These entities are also expected to provide a report to the ministry after each international trip, and this is standard practice in government.
