International Tourist Guide Day 2018

21 February 2018

International Tourist Guide Day takes place on 21 February each year. In 1990, when it was held for the first time, 15 countries participated. Since then, tourist guides in an ever growing number of countries have been giving help to their local communities, conducting tours for disabled persons, disadvantaged persons, for children, industry partners, officials and the general public.

A tourist guide is a person who guides visitors in the language of their choice and interprets the cultural and natural heritage of an area. A touris guide normally possesses an area-specific qualification, usually issued and/or recognised by the appropriate authority.

The Day is coordinated by the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations.
