Planning Monitoring and Evaluation launches National Income Dynamic Study, 8 Sept

The Department of Planning Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) will release the results of the National Income Dynamic Study (NIDS). The first NIDS was the wave 1 (survey round 1) in 2008 to wave 4 in 2014/15. The NIDS is undertaken at two to three year intervals with the first or the base wave undertaken in 2008; the NIDS Wave 2 in 2010; the NIDS Wave 3 in 2012 and the NIDS Wave 4 in 2014/2015.

The NIDS provides one of the key instruments to monitor policy performance and the extent to which the National Development Plan’s goals are being achieved. The NIDS is the first national household panel study in South Africa. The aim of the NIDS is to provide empirical data on the changing socio-economic dynamics of South African society.

The Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) commissions the NIDS. NIDS is implemented by the Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit (SALDRU) based at the University of Cape Town's School of Economics.
