Human Settlements releases details of the R10 million beneficiaries

The Department of Human Settlements, Director-General, Mbulelo Tshangana has noted with concern persistent misleading media reports stemming from a parliamentary reply on gifts, donations and sponsorships during 2013/2014 financial year.

The Director-General would like to put it on record that during the 2013/2014 financial year the Minister of Human Settlements was Ms Connie September.

 During the 2013 Human Settlements Govan Mbeki Awards the then Minister of Human Settlements gave special financial rewards to best performing institutions within the sector.

The benefited institutions which included spheres of government (Provincial and Local) and developing contractors were awarded cash amounts to be used for human settlements development.

The bulk of the money was spent on 2013 Govan Mbeki Awards as follows:

The annual Human Settlements Awards are aimed at encouraging and re-enforcing a culture of excellence within the housing sector in the delivery of integrated human settlements.

The current Minister of Human Settlements, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu, stopped these financial awards and they were discontinued. The awards are now in the form of certificates and trophies.
