Human Settlements Deputy Minister visits R25 million People’s Housing Process Project in Cape Town

Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Zou Kota-Fredericks will on Saturday, 23 April 2016 visit the Rondevlei People’s Housing Process (PHP) project in Lavender Hills, Cape Town. On completion the project is expected to yield 225 housing units benefiting more than 1000 former informal settlements dwellers and backyarders.

As part of the programme, the Deputy Minister will visit 92 year old Mrs Sara Sas, a first time home owner and the oldest beneficiary in the project.

The Deputy Minister and her entourage will also plant trees at the Dora Tamana Park, named after ANC Women’s League struggle stalwart and one of only five African women in the Western Cape to be listed under the Suppression of Communism Act 44 of 1950.

The departments PHP programme is aimed at ensuring the creation of sustainable human settlements based on community contribution, leveraging of resources through partnerships by developing livelihoods interventions which lead to outcomes like job creation, developing a culture of savings, skills transfer, community empowerment, building community assets, social security and cohesion.
