Higher Education Committee Chairperson to attend urgent meeting on violence at Universities
The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training, Ms Yvonne Phosa, will tomorrow attend a meeting with the Minister of Higher Education and Training on the violence in institutions of higher learning in Johannesburg.
The meeting will also be attended by the Whip of the Committee, Mr Danny Kekana. The Chairperson said this has resulted in cancellation of the Committee’s scheduled meeting for Wednesday to consider the Higher Education Amendment (HEA) Bill.
Ms Phosa said tomorrow’s meeting would enrich Committee members’ understanding of the issues that had engulfed the sector. “The Committee takes the issue of violence so seriously that it will accord it all the attention it deserves,” she said.
