Health Ministry commemorates International Nurses Day, 12 May

The Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla and Deputy Minister, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo will on Friday, 12 May join the provincial health authorities, nurses and leaders of nursing unions at the International Nurses Day commemorative events as part of countrywide activities to honour nurses for the important role they play in saving millions of lives, and raise awareness of the challenges they face.

International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on 12 May in memory of the birth of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.

The 2023 International Nurses Day will be celebrated under the theme: “Our Nurses, Our Future”, which serves as a clarion call by the International Council of Nurses to countries to address the global health challenges and improve global health for all.

Minister Phaahla will join Gauteng MEC for Health, Ms Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko at Pholosong Regional Hospital, Tsakane in Ekurhuleni District, while Deputy Minister Dhlomo will join Western Cape MEC for Health, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo at Western Cape College of Nursing.
