Minister Angie Motshekga hands over Porterville Primary School in Western Cape, 24 Feb

Handover of ASIDI primary school to add value to the West Coast Community of Porterville

The Minister of the Department of Basic Education, Mrs Angie Motshekga will on Wednesday 24 February 2016, through the ASIDI Programme, continue to deliver sustainable change to rural education with the official handover of Porterville Primary School in Porterville, Western Cape.

As one of the schools built under the Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative (ASIDI), Porterville Primary School is a state of the art school with amenities such as a Nutrition Centre, Computer as well as Science Lab, a fully resourced Library and Multipurpose centre to go along with the 29 classrooms. As an infrastructure program of the DBE, ASIDI plays a vital role in eradicating mud schools and in so doing, restoring dignity to rural education.

Together with the provincial infrastructure programmes, ASIDI forms a critical component of SIP13 and the national school build programme of the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Commission (PICC). 136 schools have been completed since programme inception.
