Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr Gugile Nkwinti will Saturday, 30th January 2016 meet about 1000 AgriParks Advisory Committee members from 44 districts. The department is rolling-out AgriParks across the country as part of government’s 9-Point Plan to revitalise agriculture.
Journalist will have an opportunity to interact and interview with the Minister regarding land reform and rural development programme. An initial funding of R2 billion has been made available for the agri-park initiative, of which 1% will go into capacity building especially in municipalities.
An Agri-park is a networked innovation system of agro-production, processing, logistics, marketing, training and extension services, located in a District Municipality. As a network it enables a market-driven combination and integration of various agricultural activities and rural transformation services. The objectives that inform the establishment of Agri-parks are:
- To kick-start Rural Economic transformation a
- To grow the small holder sector: by increasing production and bringing land that is lying fallow into full production
- Strengthen partnership within government and with the private sector
- Increase employment
