Free State Economic, Small Business Development provides support to informal traders, 27 May

The contribution of the informal traders to the economic growth, employment creation, poverty eradication and the country’s GDP continues to occupy a central stage in the economic progress of the Free State Provincial Government.

Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, in partnership with Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality and ABI, through the Micro Enterprise Support Programme has provided business and financial management skills training support to a group of Spaza Shop owners and Hawkers in Qwaqwa.

One hundred (100) Spaza owners in Maluti-A-Phofung were trained by the Small Business Development section of Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in an effect to improve the sustainability of their businesses. A further 26 Hawkers received training by Amalgamated Beverages Industries (ABI) and will today receive their own trailers to help them improve their appeal, visibility and projection to their stock.

The objective of this programme is to develop and support micro-enterprises in the Free State Province, to promote entrepreneurship, to fund, and to increase access to resources and capital for the Free Staters, especially youth, women and disabled people.
