The Department of Public Service and Administration Department will host the Africa Public Service Day (APSD) celebrations at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation in Pretoria on Thursday, 23 June 2016.
Acting Minister for Public Service and Administration, Ms Edna Molewa will deliver a keynote address. She will be joined by the International Relations and Cooperation Minister, Ms Maite Nkoana- Mashabane.
Held under the theme: “Public Governance for Inclusive Growth and Gender mainstreaming: Towards the Public Service we want,” the celebrations will take a form of roundtable discussions where public servants, public service institutions, academia, civil society organisations and citizens in South Africa will discuss issues pertaining to gender mainstreaming within public service with special focus on women and youth.
The APSD is a strategic entrenched event in the calendar of the African Union (AU) and the public service generally in the continent. Among others the day seek to provide a platform to showcase dedication, commitment and extra mile as demonstrated by men and women who devote their lives to serve the public service despite their working conditions. These celebrations are about rewarding good initiatives and promoting professionalism in the public service locally and across the African Continent.
The celebrations provide space to motivate and encourage public servants to continue going beyond the call of duty, come up with new initiatives and innovations whilst obtaining feedback from the citizenry on the public services rendered. They further provide an invaluable opportunity for public servants to promote values such as professionalism, accountability, responsiveness, ethics and performance in the delivery of public service.
