Bokone Bophirima wins again at the 2016 Govan Mbeki Housing Awards
A youth contractor from Bokone Bophirima has scooped an award at the national Govan Mbeki Housing Awards held at the Durban International Convention Centre, on the 24th of November 2016. This is the second year in a row that the province has won the Best Youth Contractor of the Year category.
Tumelo Mokone (32) of Andisa Consulting first won the Best Youth Contractor at the provincial awards which made him eligible to compete with other provinces at the national awards, for the 126 community residential units (CRU) he has built in Marikana. Mokone maintains Marikana was one of the most difficult areas he has ever worked in.
‘Despite all the challenges, we made sure we gained the confidence of the community and deliver the best quality units’, said Mokone.
MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Galaletsang Gaolaolwe has applauded Mokone for making sure the award stays in the province, following in the steps of last year’s winner, Thokozane Littler of Madimong Construction, who also won the 2015 Best Youth Contractor.
“We are delighted as a province that we have been able to maintain the standard and we can only encourage our developers to work even harder and deliver quality houses”, she said.
The Govan Mbeki Awards were established to encourage all stakeholders in the sector to respond systematically and foster a culture of producing quality housing and service delivery for all.
