MEC Magome Masike opens Geriatric Psychiatry Care Unit in Witrand Hospital, 29 Jul

First of its kind, Geriatric Psychiatry Care Unit opens in Witrand Hospital

MEC for Health Dr Magome Masike will tomorrow, 29 July 2016 officially open a first of its kind Geriatric Psychiatry Care Unit to people of Bokone Bophirima in Witrand Hospital, Potchefstroom.

The newly built state of the art facility will provide care and assessment to referral patients from across the Province with psychiatric illness, behavioural and psychological symptoms of Dementia and medical concerns.

Witrand Hospital has also finalised and completed construction of 60 bed Community Psychiatric unit which will also open its doors starting tomorrow to residents of Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality.

Both the unit will operate on a referral basis and during their stay; patients will be assessed by specialists including doctors, occupational therapists, geriatric psychiatrists, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, rehabilitation assistants, pharmacists, social workers nurses and dieticians.

MEC Masike will later on the day proceed to Joubertina and Khuma in Klerksdorp where he will be handing over a newly built clinic to residents of Khuma and turn the sod for construction of a new Clinic in Joubertina Township.
