Deputy Minister Bheki Cele visits North West to address drought crisis, 29 Feb

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) General Bheki Cele and MEC Manketsi Tlhape in partnership with Tiger Brands respond to the drought crisis in North West

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, General Bheki Cele and MEC for Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development (READ) in North West Province, Ms Manketsi Tlhape and partners will visit the province as one of the drought affected provinces.

DAFF, READ and Tiger Brands will be providing intervention support programmes in the form of boreholes, water, fodder, garden tools and food parcels and citrus trees to identified villages and towns which are hard hit by the drought crisis.

Tiger Brands as the main partner has committed assistance and will erect two boreholes, establish two community gardens, provide training and related assistance in the area, including distributing water and food parcels. Tiger Brands will offer monitoring and evaluation expertise to ensure that the project positively impacts the community and improve agriculture production in the area.

Furthermore, the department will distribute fodder to livestock farmers and also erect a borehole for livestock in the area.
