Deputy Minister Bheki Cele responds to drought crisis in Limpopo, 19 Feb

General Bheki Cele and MEC Joy Matshoge in partnership with Tigerbrands respond to the drought crisis in Limpopo

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, General Bheki Cele and private sector partners, will engage on a marathon to provinces affected by drought by providing intervention support programmes in the form of boreholes, water, fodder, start up gardens and food parcels to identified villages and towns which are hard hit by the drought crisis.

In Limpopo, General Cele will be joined by MEC Joy Matshoge and Tiger Brands to launch the partnership programme aimed at providing a sustainable relief programme in the area. Tiger Brands has committed assistance and will erect two boreholes, establish two community gardens, provide training and related assistance in the area, including distributing water and food parcels.

Tiger Brands will offer monitoring and evaluation expertise to ensure that the project positively impacts the community and improve agriculture production in the area.

Furthermore, the department will distribute fodder to livestock farmers and also erect a borehole for livestock in the area.
