Committee Chairperson congratulates department on unqualified audit report

Chairperson of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s (GPL) Portfolio Committee on Infrastructure Development, Honourable Lindi Lasindwa, congratulates the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development for achieving an unqualified audit report for the 2015/16 financial year.

The Committee is responsible for overseeing the department’s work to ensure the implementation of policies, programmes and expenditures.

Hon. Lasindwa on behalf of the Committee acknowledges and welcomes the department’s commitment to good governance, transparency and accountability.

She commended the MEC, Management and staff members of the department for a job well done. “Achieving an unqualified audit opinion is more than just a picture of the department’s finances, but also inspires hope and confidence in the people of Gauteng that the department is under safe and capable hands charged with the responsibility of providing and managing the Province’s public infrastructure” said Chairperson Lasindwa.”

The Chairperson further stated that though the Committee was pleased with the outcome of the audit report, it remained concerned about some aspects raised by the Auditor General in his report. This included among others, the department’s late payment of services providers which is a non-adherence to Treasury regulation as stipulated in the Public Finance Management Act for all payments to be made within 30 days of receipt of invoices.

The Committee will meet with the department on the 1st September 2016, for a presentation on the Focus Intervention Study which relates to late payment of contractors, poor performance by contractors and termination of contracts during implementation period.
