Portfolio Committe on Co-operative Governance, Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements convenes Bua le Sechaba Feedback Session in Heidelberg
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s COGTA & Human Settlements Portfolio Committee will tomorrow convene a Bua le Sechaba Feedback Session for the People of Lesedi Local Municipality and Sedibeng District Municipality.
The Bua le Sechaba Feedback Session is scheduled to take place as follows:
Venue: Ratanda Multi-purpose Centre, Heidelberg
Date: Wednesday, 16 March 2016
Time: 09h00
The main objective of this Public Meeting is to report back to the people of Gauteng on progress made in addressing Human Settlements issues, concerns and challenges raised by the people of Gauteng during the Bua Le Sechaba Campaign held by the Portfolio Committee in March 2015.
The Portfolio Committee initially embarked on a research exercise targetting communities in the Devon; Endicott; Jameson Park; and Ratanda areas. The data collection exercise was undertaken so the Research Report can assist the Portfolio Committee when resolutions are taken and recommendations made on the state of housing service delivery in these areas amongst others.
Subsequent to the research undertaken, the Portfolio Committee convened the Bua Le Sechaba Campaign in March 2015 to assess progress made in integrating and ensuring sustainable human settlements in rural communities and the effectiveness of the Local Government’s Turnaround Strategies of 2009 in addressing service delivery challenges. During the two-day Campaign that included oversight visits to various affected areas, community members raised several service delivery concerns. Based on those concerns, the Portfolio Committee made recommendations to the Gauteng Human Settlements Department for resolve.
The Feedback Session will provide a platform for the Department to provide feedback on progress made in addressing the identified service delivery challenges. The Session is targeted at around 1500 stakeholders.
Members of the Media are invited to attend.
