Gauteng Health hosts public speaking debates for Gauteng schools, 10 to 11 Jun

As part of Gauteng’s youth month programme, various schools will take part in the provincial public speaking debates competition scheduled for Friday and Saturday this week.

The school debates are a growing phenomenon in schools whose objective is to promote the culture of research, learning and reading among young people. The programme is also aimed at developing and boosting their confidence and raising their level of consciousness on broader socio economic challenges facing the world today.

Says MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Faith Mazibuko: “It is important to engage the youth in thoughtful activities such as public speaking and frequent usage of libraries. This will not only assist in keeping them away from social ills but in developing better citizens out of them ready to debate and engage peacefully in finding solutions”.
