Gauteng Health commemorates World TB Day in Soweto, 30 Mar

Gauteng Department of Health will tomorrow commemorate World TB Day in Kopanong Community Hall in Dobsonville, Soweto. The day is celebrated annually on 24 March and this year’s theme is Ending South Africa’s TB epidemic: Moving towards the 90-90-90 strategy in key populations. The event is aimed at raising awareness about the burden of TB.

During the month long campaign, the department has been educating the community on how to recognise the signs/ symptoms of the disease and creating public awareness about the importance of testing, the availability of treatment and promotion of healthy lifestyles.

The event will start in the morning with door to door campaign for health education, TB contact and defaulter tracing. In addition to TB awareness,  the following services will be available: male medical circumcision on site, HIV counselling and testing, eye testing, prostate examination, screenings for chronic diseases, pap smears which help to detect cervical cancer as well as services from Home Affairs and South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA).
