Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation hosts Archives Week, 13 May

As the provincial archives week programme draws to a close, the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will this coming Friday, 13 May 2016, host the main event to outline the state of archives and records and how the public could use and benefit from these.  

Scheduled to speak at the event are Razia Saleh from the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Jo Anne Duggan from the Archival Platform and Mogale City’s Executive Mayor Councilor Koketso Seerane. The MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Faith Mazibuko will deliver the keynote address.   

This year’s archive observation is held under the theme “Archives for the Protection of Human Rights, Transparency and Good Governance”.

The event on Friday will afford patrons and the public an opportunity to learn more about the importance of preserving documented history in order to understand and appreciate its impact on our daily lives.
