Freedom Day 2018

27 April

South Africa celebrates Freedom Day annually on the 27 April.

The 2018 Freedom Day national event will take place at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium, Bloemfontein, Free State Province. The event will be held under the theme “The year of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela: towards full realisation of our freedom through radical socio-economic transformation”.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the keynote address.

This year’s celebration coincides with the centenary anniversary of former President Nelson Mandela and Mama Albertina Sisulu.

Freedom Day recognises and celebrates the strides that have been made since 1994, and acknowledges that South Africa is a far better society than it was under apartheid.  It is also a period of reflection on what else needs to be done collectively towards the goal of building a prosperous society and improving the quality of life for all.
