Free State Government holds inaugural Free State Transport Careers Expo, Parys Aerodrome, 3 Jun

Transport careers expo opens doors for learners & job seekers

The Free State Provincial Government, in conjunction with the Transport Education Training Authority (TETA), will host the inaugural Free State Transport Careers Expo at the Parys Aerodrome on Saturday, 3 June 2017. The Expo, a first of its kind in the Province, aims to expose high school learners and job seekers to careers in the various streams of the transport sector including road, rail, aviation, forward and clearing, freight handling, maritime and green transport.

The event seeks to encourage learners to select subjects that will assist them in pursuing careers in the transport sector while creating a platform for skills development and capacity building in the sector.

“The Transport sector is one that holds massive potential for job creation and entrepreneurship opportunities. We are excited to launch this initiative as most learners are not aware of the diverse employment opportunities that lie in the field of transportation. We have ensured that we attract a varied mix of exhibitors in order to afford learners a bird’s eye-view of the range of career options available in transportation”, says Maphefo Anno-Frempong, CEO of the Transport Education Training Authority.

The Expo will be packed with informative talks from exhibitors in the transport sector, achievers and entrepreneurs who have made major strides in this specialized sector which contributes approximately 9% towards the country’s GDP (Source: Key Trends in The South African Economy – IDC Department of Research and Information). There will also be exhibitions from various companies with an emphasis on job opportunities, skills training, bursaries and scholarships.

The Premier of the Free State, Ace Magashule, wholeheartedly champions education for the youth and the important role it plays in society. “The Free State Province has a pool of talented learners who have dynamic skills and interests.  Our Province was the best performer in the 2016 matric results and we are committed to nurturing this talent by investing in skills development and career opportunity ventures such as this one. We are proud to host this event along with the TETA and we intend to see it growing in the upcoming years”, says Premier Ace Magashule.

The Transport Career Expo emphasizes the Free State Government’s desire to leave a lasting legacy that will increase the number of appropriately skilled people that will, in the future, meet the demands of the emerging economy and hopefully serve the Province which is now ensuring a better tomorrow for them.

Parents, teachers and caregivers are encouraged to mobilise learners to attend the event. Follow @FSTransportCareersExpo on Facebook and Twitter for more information about the event.
