Free Staters take to the streets to create awareness about environment issues
Affected role players will take to the streets of Zamdela, Sasolburg to actively voice messages about environmental issues to bring effective and positive changes towards the environment. About 1500 environmentally concerned community members, mainly learners to ensure involvement of modern youth will march from Zio shopping centre to Zamdela SAPS station.
The rally is in commemoration of the World Environmental Day celebrated annually on the 5th of June. With this year’s theme of “Join the race to make the world a better place”, people worldwide are encouraged people to actively take part in addressing environmental issues.
Speaking on the matter during his 2016/17 Budget Vote Speech, MEC for Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs; Sam Mashinini said, “Cleaning and greening of our communities for effective human settlement underpins our programme of ensuring that communities live in environmentally healthy areas as espoused in the South African constitution”.
As an Environment month, June will be flooded with activities and messages to Promote Environmental Awareness. More than 20 slogans or messages have been developed for young and old to individualize, internalize and understand what the celebration is all about and take action. Some of the slogans are:
- Save Earth for your future generations
- Make your everyday Earth Day
- Unite to make planet Earth pollution-free
- Save Earth from Global Warming
- Let’s work together for a safe Earth
