Free State Arts and Culture opens Motati Public Library, 5 Apr

Opening of the Motati Public Library

The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture & Recreation, is proud to announce that the communities of Verkeerdevlei and Tshepong will now have access to a brand new, spacious library to be opened on Wednesday 5 April 2017.

The Motati Public Library was built at a cost of approximately R12 million. The project was funded from the Community Library Conditional Grant which is made available by the Department of Arts and Culture to provincial departments to transform and upgrade public library services in the country.

This flagship library of the Lejweleputswa District will fill a huge gap in terms of fulfilling the information needs of the community who can look forward to moving from a one-roomed library to a fully-fledged center of information excellence.

This well-furnished library also boasts children and adult lending sections, a reading area, reference section, an activity hall, a study hall, computer room and a toy library. The toy library service will not only support early childhood development but games such as chess, scrabble, monopoly and others will cater for the needs of the older child and adults.

The library is equipped with 22 computers providing free internet access, e-mail and word processing facilities. Ten tablet computers will be available for downloading and reading e-books and e-periodicals as well as newspapers.

The following services are provided:

  • Book lending services with approximately 10 000 library materials.
  • Reference services with a hard copy reference collection of encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, yearbooks and Britannica online.
  • E-publications and access to Internet reference resources

  • Business Information Services
