MEC Mathabo Leeto congratulates Free State artists on SAMA nominations

Free State artists nominated for 2017 SA Music Awards

The Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Me. Mathabo Leeto would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Free State artists that have been nominated for the 23rd South African Music Awards (SAMAs). The SAMAs are the Recording Industry of South Africa’s music industry awards, established in 1995.

The ceremony is held every year, with the judging process starting in November of the previous year. This music award ceremony affords South African music artists an opportunity to be awarded for their talents and encourages music fanatics to actively participate in this process by voting for their favorite artists in certain categories.

The 23rd edition of the SAMAs is an instalment that will be celebrating 23 years of existence and of recognising the rich South African music and talent respectively. The 23rd SAMAs ceremony will be held in Sun City on May 26 & 27 2017. The three artists who have successfully put the Free State province on the map in their respective music genres are:

1) Taylor K – The Bloemfontein-born independent artist has been nominated in the Best Kwaito Album category for his album Paper Chase.
2) Teboho Moloi - Adored by many gospel fans around the country, Teboho has been nominated in the Best Traditional Faith album category for his latest album titled Nkutlwele Bohloko.
3) Coenie de Villers – Another Free State artist who continues to proudly fly our province‟s flag with pride. Coenie is nominated in the Beste Kontemporêre Musiek Album for his album titled Emoji.

“We are proud to have artists of this caliber in our province. These artists have demonstrated that indeed the Free State province is a home of champions and we are also confident that they will bring accolades home. Furthermore, as a Department we continue to pursue the mandate entrusted upon us by the National Development Plan (NDP) Vision 2030: „Transforming Society and Uniting the Country‟ and to ensure the realisation of social cohesion and nation building in our communities” said Me Mathabo Leeto.
