The Portfolio Committee on Sport and Recreation is satisfied with the clarification provided by the Minister of Sport and Recreation, Mr Fikile Mbalula, on the tour of boxing champion, Mr Floyd Mayweather, to South Africa in 2014.
Minister Fikile Mbalula offered to appear before the Committee today after a request by a member of the Committee for clarification on the Re-awakening of the Giant Initiative, where Mr Floyd Mayweather participated in a promotional tour for boxing in Dube Township, in Soweto.
The Committee appreciates the extensive explanation by Minister Fikile Mbalula and the Department of Sport and Recreation on the exact figures for funds that were spent during the Re-awakening of the Giant Initiative and what they were spent on. The Committee further notes that the member of the Committee that had initially requested the clarification on this matter is still not satisfied with the explanation given. However the Committee considers this matter closed.
