North West Legislature on allegations of financial misconduct at Bojanala District Municipality

North West SCOPA Calls Bojanala District Municipality To account over allegations of financial mismanagement

The North West Provincial Legislature's Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts (SCOPA) has raised serious concerns over allegations of financial misconduct at Bojanala District Municipality.  The Committee has called the District Municipality to account in a meeting that will be held on Wednesday, 16 October 2019 at  16h00 in the Legislature Committee Room 2.

This follows media reports that employees of the municipality threatened to burn the municipal offices due to financial mismanagement and non-payment of salaries including statutory payments such as medical aid and South African Revenue Services deductions.

SCOPA Chairperson, Hon. Job Dliso said the Standing Committee will summon the district municipality together with the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs and Provincial Treasury. "We are appealing to the public for calm as we will meet the municipality as part of doing our oversight to ensure financial accountability on funds appropriated to the municipalities," said Hon. Dliso.
