Countdown to deem persons in the Film and Television industry as employees begins
The drive to regard persons in the Film and Television as employees has started.
In December 2019 Employment and Labour Minister, T.W Nxesi issued via the Government Gazette a notice in terms of Section 83(2) of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) No. 75 of 1997 of the intention of deeming persons in the Film and Television as employees for the purposes of the National Minimum Wage Act, the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.
Following the release of the periodic the Department of Employment and Labour is inviting interested parties with an interest in the Film and Television industry to make written representations.

Interested stakeholders will have 60 days to make inputs. The Government Gazette was published on 11 December 2020.
